On January 20th through the 24th of 2025, the World Economic Forum was hosted in Davos-Klosters. There was a lot of anticipation for President Donald Trump’s speech, especially given his recent statements about annexing Greenland from Denmark and reclaiming the Panama Canal from Chinese control. These were just some of the topics people were eager to hear about.
Right away, President Trump didn’t hold back. He eagerly addressed the state of the United States economy during President Biden's tenure. He cited a study by Casey Mulligan of the University of Chicago, which stated that the average household costs had increased by around $50,000 during Biden's presidency. This economic strain was a significant factor in the high voter turnout for the recent election. Trump secured one of the largest youth wins for the Republican Party in history. He plans to lower interest rates immediately to reduce housing prices, which have soared in recent years. Additionally, he aims to eliminate climate policies that he believes are driving up the cost of food and other essentials.
President Trump stated, “My message to every business in the world is very simple: Come make your product in America, and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on Earth.” True to his word, Trump has outlined plans to incentivize companies to move their production to the USA. One of his strategies includes imposing intense tariffs, potentially up to 100%, on countries that are members of BRICS, such as China, India, Russia, Brazil, and Iran. He even suggested that Denmark could face similar tariffs if they refuse to sell Greenland to the United States.
Trump believes that if companies do not relocate their production to the USA, the tariffs will bring billions, if not trillions, of dollars back to the country. Across the pond, Russia is preparing for economic collapse, with Vladimir Putin adopting Trump's strategy against China, their largest trading partner. Putin's tariffs on Chinese cars are estimated at 55.5%. These actions demonstrate that even America's adversaries recognize the effectiveness of Trump's policies and are fearful.
President Trump also addressed concerns about the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the USA. Despite the historically fluctuating relationship, Trump announced that Saudi Arabia is investing $600 billion into the US economy. He believes he can increase this investment to $1 trillion and plans to speak with the Crown Prince about boosting oil production to lower prices. During the Presidential race, Trump made similar requests, but Saudi Arabia did not act, possibly fearing that Trump would lose the election.
President Trump stated, “If the price came down, the Russia-Ukraine war would end immediately. Right now, the price is high enough that that war will continue.”
President Trump spoke about signing an executive order on his first day to end government censorship, highlighting the previous denial of censorship on platforms like Twitter before Elon Musk and Facebook. He emphasized that Republicans had been censored for years.
Addressing more executive orders, Trump officially stated that there are only two genders in the USA and that transgender participation in sports must align with their biological gender. This has been a significant concern for many Americans, especially in the context of female college and Olympic athletes. Over the past few years, Americans have witnessed oppressive behavior from the left, which claims to be pro-female yet allows young men to compete in women's sports, causing harm to young women. These years have damaged America's reputation, with enemies laughing and allies questioning our ability to protect them.
President Trump reiterated that many countries have fallen behind on spending 5% of their annual GDP on defense, a recurring issue from his previous term. He warned that if this continues, it could be a reason for the United States to pull out of NATO, as the alliance has been failing and abusing America's kindness for too long.
Trump also addressed the Middle East and the war between Israel and Gaza, noting that Hamas had started releasing hostages taken on October 7th before he officially took office. Trump played a key role in achieving this peace, threatening US involvement if hostages were not released and peace was not found. However, this does not excuse the crimes committed by Israel against the children of Gaza, which even the Pope has called "cruelty not war."
